Funding was reportedly identified, and plans were drawn up but current status unknown. • CL VSK: Two paramedics made firm comments to camp leader and first aid officer they have attended LSC before and had accessibility issues accessing First Aid room in staff hut. Particular issue raised was the wooden steps on egress of hut – as the patient could not be taken out through ramp access facing centre lawn as it would have been potentially distressing for VSK participants. A Dark Blue grouper cut her thigh on a sharp spring hinge on one of the Mess hut tables that had been put up against the wall (as per normal storage). The table was located: on the Sculls side, two tables down toward the top table end of the Mess Hut. The deep cut resulted in 7 stitches and a tetanus shot. This information has also been passed on to Josh Clarke of Somers Inc. We had to rely on personal phones and depending on your provider, access not always possible. This was heightened with the need to call Ambulances, book Medical appointments and speak with online Medical practitioners. I belive given the poor reception, Campsite should have a minimum of 2 Satellite Phones that can be used in emergencies where phone lines are not viable. This would also support in the Cross Country event with Camp Radios not working and out of zone. Comms from the course to Camp, Beach and First Aid would be available and our staff would not have to rely on their personal devices working. It would be dire if an emergency occurred and no reception was availabe for support. Distance for a staff member to travel back to camp from the offsite course could be too great and also cause distress. The availability of a minimum of 2 satellite phones would resolve any comms issues going forward. Telephone lines were not operating in the First Aid room, so the team used their personal phones to connect with virtual Doctors for assessment of patients. Internet was so poor that one eveing when we had an Ambulance in attendance, the Paramedic, using Mel Ciadulli's phone, had to leave the first aid room and walk to the Carpark to communicate with the online doctor. She was most unhappy at having to leave the patient to perform this. If a booster could be installed on the Staff Hut or the Somers Inc Office, this would assist access and hopefully improve the quality of connection. This would create a courtyard space so to speak and allow for other better uses of the space to be made into the future. Secure storage of media gear, radios, keys, the gong, flags and other important items can be properly kept and removes things from needing to be taken back and forth from powerhouse such as the media tub 2. As such, it has been identified that the storage cupboard and also the under stairs storage, as well as the desks, flooring, powerpoint and network cables, shelving and overall space needs a serious refresh. I would like to propose that new benches that are more effective be added in, proper storage be added in one section for supplies, the floor be sanded and re-done and some wall shelving be added vertically along the rear wall, chairs be thrown out as they are falling a part and new ones purchased and the walls be given a new coat of paint, holes repaired and permanent fixing points added in. Lastly, the networking and power cables need to be looked at properly and a section of the room updated to accommodate the printer permanently with associated shelves and network/power access so that it doesn't need to be moved around all the time. I think they continue to pose a serious risk of concussion due to their placement and the fact that the most obvious place for bags is right below them. Big Camp 2024 had two of the wettest days in years and all the groupers' clothes were drenched and could not dry as they were hanging out in the rain. In addition, these lines are located on the edge of the roofline and as these buildings do not have gutters, all the rain off each roof was also dropping directly onto the clothes hanging up (Dirty water and sediment from the roof washing down onto clothes). In the past temporary lines were strung up under the covered walkways between the huts but this creates hazards. A permanent solution in the form of a covered section needs to be added along those ablution block clothes lines.
