We are currently limited to small observational studies and retrospective analyses using large national datasets. If 2-3 students are interested in collaborating, we can likely develop a prospective observational clinical study to be executed in the clinical Emergency Department.
Students can develop a project on any emergency medicine topic, but our areas of interest/expertise are primarily around (1) injury prevention and (2) EMS/prehospital care.YesSurgery & Perioperative CareLawrenceBrownPhDlhbrown@ascension.orglhb477https://researchers.dellmed.utexas.edu/en/persons/lawrence-brown-iiiDivision of Emergency Medicine

basic/translational research
Our research efforts are focused in three general areas within an overall theme of genome instability, DNA damage and mechanisms of repair. A unique feature of our approach is an emphasis on the role of DNA structure, including non-canonical structures such as triplex DNA, as recognition sites for repair machinery, sources of genomic instability, and as a basis for technology to target DNA damage to specific genomic sites.YesOtherKarenVasquezPhDkaren.vasquez@austin.utexas.edukv347http://sites.utexas.edu/vasquez/Pharmacology and Toxicology
